"I'll try not to, very much anyway." she smiled weakly and shook her head. "I'll always be worried about something."

He nodded, smiling a ghost of a smile at her comment. It was true, that was just how she was, and he could honestly say he never minded it.

"It is in your character" he admitted.

"It always has been." she agreed, her smile growing stronger. True, she'd been that way around the others back at Wammy's as well.

He nodded and handed her a piece of food. He smiled at her oblivious to the fact that he had some crumbs on the side of his mouth.

"Yes, it's been amusing and endearing" he mumbled.

"Endearing?" she mused, flushing a little. "Well, at least it amused you."
She became aware of the stray crumbs and wiped them away with the tip of her thumb, teasing slightly as she did so. "Such a messy eater."

He blinked a few times as she did this, feeling he thin, long and warm fingers touch his face. He noticed that he did not mind it, in fact it was comforting. His gray eyes looked calculating at her as she did so.

"I suppose I am" he said in a throaty whisper.

He licked the side of his lip where the crumbs were formerly located just to make sure.

"You've always been that way." she agreed, pulling her hand back, maybe a little reluctantly. She was glad that the atmosphere had become light and friendly again, as opposed to the tense way it had been a bit before.

He nodded and felt coldness among the skin her fair hand had caressed. He was never comfortable with the opposite gender because he never cared nor noticed it. She was one that was usually ignored in his radar, seeing her as his equal. He hated moments like these when she forced him to remember that she was a girl.

Woman he corrected himself.

"I have?" he asked.

"Mhm, you've always been a fan of the sweeter foods." though if she remembered correctly, his sweet tooth had grown as the years had gone on, as had the insomnia, and so many other things.

He nodded and his eyes looked away from his sugar plate to her face. Without her knowing he studied her. Her mismatched eyes that showed so much vulnerability to him; her long hair that he knew was soft from the times it brushed against his cheek as she looked over his shoulder to see some new fact. He knew she smelled like......girl, something that he could never name.

"True, that is true" he said.

He saw her pale skin that he remembered decades ago was colored by the dirt she entered with in Wammys.

She took a seat in a nearby chair and grabbed a stack of papers, simply looking for something to occupy herself with for the time being. She smiled to herself, pleased that even if it had just been a moment, they had just had a brief time of what they used to be.

He noticed that she got up and moved and the moment that occurred the spell was broken. He blinked a few times and nodded at her smile. He was no longer hungry and put his plate down.

She looked up at the small tap that indicated that he had set his plate down.
"Finished?" she questioned.

He nodded.

"Yes, it seems I am no longer hungry" he replied.

He turned to face her and looked serious.

"Let's get back to business yes?" he asked.

She nodded and set her papers aside. "Yes; what's next on today's agenda?"

He sighed and looked onto the computer.

"Today we shall do our first contact with the police force" he said.

"How do you plan to go about this?" she questioned, her eyes drawn to the screen. He didn't make contact with the police often, but then, this was no ordinary case.

L got up from his seat and signaled her to follow. He walked over the the main computer and began to type the contact information.

"You see, I have taken Watari out of retirement for a day to simply contact them through the laptop handed to him while you slept." he said.

She followed and peered over his shoulder at the data.
"Right, that's very thoughtful of you... how do expect the ICPO will react?"

He looked up at her ignoring the soft hair rubbing against his cheek.

"Well there is a 45% chance of disbelief, but I know that if they themselves contacted Watari to contact us, then they will have to trust us." he said. "The question is, should we trust them?"

"Yes, that is something we'll have to consider." she thought for a moment, examining the data on the computer. "Perhaps Watari can report back to us what he thinks of them? And then we'll monitor the leaders."

He nodded and began the communication. As it was beginning to go through, he turned to face her.

"You cannot speak, just listen, my voice shall be muffled. You understand the procedure correct?"he asked.

"Of course." she relented. To be quite honest, she would have like to have had the ability to interject if she felt like it, but she supposed that would just confuse things.

He waited for her to sit, and as she did he began the contact with them. He noticed that there were middle age men looking onto the laptop. He pushed the button on the microphone and began to talk.

"I am L" he said simply.

Soar sat silently, even her breathing was nearly soundless as she watched and listened. These conferences always made her nervous because she never knew how people would react.
